THE PANORIDIM STEEL ORCHESTRA

The Panoridim Steel Orchestra is a nonprofit steel band located on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI). In 1977 the UWI Steel Orchestra conducted their first formal concert. The band consists primarily of University students, graduates and a few musically inclined persons from other educational institutions and communities surrounding the UWI . Presently, the band is sixty percent female. This is as a result of the predominance of females on the campus.

The group has toured Guantanomo Bay, Cuba in 1991. We have also toured European 1957 at the invitation of the French National Union of Students. Between 1958 and 1964 the group toured on the boat "Ascania". The group played for Queen Elizabeth 11 of England,for the British Commonwealth on the British Commonwealth on at least two occasions.

We are a very vibrant group. We meet on Thursdays from 2:00 PM.
